About Revolutionary War Weekend

The Revolutionary War Weekend is a two-day event located at Historic Cold Spring Village, the largest open-air living history museum in NJ. You’ll be transported to the 1800s at this frozen-in-time Revolutionary War reenactment event and experience historically accurate activities and demonstrations like:

  • Authentically clad and equipped reenactors
  • Encampments, weaponry, and demonstrations from living history groups, including Colonial Militia and Revolutionary War Hessians
  • Artillery demonstrations
  • Special presentation on Flags of the American Revolution
  • Reading of the Declaration of Independence
  • Period-appropriate music by Ministers of Apollo and John and Jan Haigis
  • Presentation of the book Patriots, Redcoats, and Spies by children’s author Robert Skead
  • Patriot Spy Game for kids

You can also visit Spicer Leaming House to discover more about Ben Franklin and his inventions, or the Dennisville Inn for a discussion with HCSV’s Chief Operating Officer about Cape May County’s only Revolutionary War battle, the Battle of Turtle Gut Inlet. Our last event was held from Saturday to Sunday, August 2 and 3, 2023 from 11 am-4 pm and was sponsored by Clarks Moving and Storage and Ocean Club Hotel. This event is held annually, so check back in with us for future dates in 2024.

Other Cape May Activities

Cape May is such a beautiful and historical city, why not prolong your visit for a few more days? There are plenty of things to do around Cape May, whether you want some outdoor activities, classic tourist stops, shopping, or unique restaurants. Just a few things to add to your list are:

Sunset Beach

Cape May is located right on the coast and it’s a great place to visit the ocean if you like the beach. Sunset Beach is one of the many beaches in Cape May but is unique due to the “Cape May Diamonds” (quartz pebbles that look like diamonds) and the wreckage of the SS Atlantus, a WWI-era concrete ship. This choice is great for history lovers and nature lovers alike.

Civil War Museums

Cape May is filled with history and heritage from the American Revolution, WWI, and the Civil War. Visit The Harriet Tubman Museum of New Jersey or Cape May MAC’s Underground Railroad Trolley Tour to learn more about the role Cape May played in the Civil War and the abolition of slavery.

Cape May Lighthouse

Get some activity while enjoying breathtaking views by climbing to the top of the Cape May Lighthouse. This lighthouse was built in 1859 and features 199 cast-iron spiral steps. Once you reach the top, you’ll see beautiful views of Delaware Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.

If you’d rather just relax, feel free to spend the day at Ocean Club Hotel, where you’ll have access to everything you need to enjoy your stay.
